About Jamal Abdullah

Dr. Jamal Abdullah is an academic and a senior researcher/analyst, specialized in International and Middle Eastern affairs and more focused on the Gulf issues. He is currently Adjunct Professor at the American University in Dubai (AUD) and visiting scholar and Lecturer of Middle Eastern Politics at University of Montreal in Canada. He served as a Senior Member - Academic Visitor at Saint Antony's College at University of Oxford in UK (2016-2018), and was previously Head of Gulf Studies Unit at AJ Centre for Studies in Doha (2011-2016). He worked also as a Senior Researcher at TRT WORLD Research Centre in Istanbul (2017-2018), and as a Visiting Professor at the UIN Jakarta (2018-2019). Jamal holds a Ph.D. in Law and International Relations from Avignon University in France and a Master degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from University of Lyon in France. Jamal trained at the UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) in 2006, in Geneva, and at the Permanent Mission of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva, in 2005. He is trilingual in Arabic, English and French. He has widely published research papers, chapters and articles. Moreover, Jamal has authored a book on “Qatar’s Foreign Policy 1995 – 2013: Leverages and Strategies” (published May 2014), and is the Co-editor of a second book on “The Gulf in a Changing Strategic Context” (published January 2014). Under his guidance and supervision, he launched a third book on “The March of the Gulf Cooperation: Current Challenges and Possible Scenarios”,(January 2015).
