About Jamal Umer

I have one year of Research Associate experience from Loughborough University UK in addition to PhD from the same university. The topic of my PhD research, concerning tribodynamics characterisation and micro and nanoscale contact conditions, was in partnership with a major development organisation of advanced coating materials for Internal Combustion engines (Capricorn Automotive Ltd UK) in conjunction with a specialist lubricant producer (BP Castrol Ltd UK). I have produced 32 journal and conference papers published in reputed journals and by presenting at well-reputed conferences across the world, through internal and external collaborations, respectively. In addition to PhD qualification from Loughborough University UK, I also have a “Master of Science in chemical engineering: Engineering Rheology” from a consortium of KU Leuven Belgium, UMinho Portugal, and ULj Slovenia and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore Pakistan. In addition to focused research working on the AFM, I have also used a number of experimental techniques, at nano and microscales, to characterise surfaces, coatings, and tribofilms including; X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), optical microscopy, Interferometry, in-house built tribometry, and Goniometry. I have proven well-established professional experimental skills reflected through published papers in well-reputed journals papers.
