About James Amps

Before completing a PGCE in Design & Technology with QTS, James gained a BSc in Industrial Design from Loughborough University. While teaching full-time, James continued his studies, completing an MA in Education at Derby University. James has his NPQH and is currently Deputy Head at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar as the lead DSL and directing attitudes to learning, SEND provision and curriculum. James has led & taught across the full age & ability range and has previously worked as a vice principal at Ormiston Horizon, leading curriculum timetable and academy standards, moving from Djanogly City Academy where he spent 5 years as an assistant head. Prior to this he spent 5 years as a faculty leader for technology, engineering & vocational studies at Wrenn Academy and before this a teacher & second in department at Chellaston Academy for 7 years. He has led T&L coaching networks to share best practice across schools as an ITT coordinator and regional lead practitioner. James is a highly motivated leader in all that he does and gains most satisfaction from helping pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
