About James Atkinson

James is a product designer with a proven track record of solving difficult technical problems with a manufacturing-first approach to complex technical challenges. He is currently developing high-efficiency electrostatic air cleaning systems and working towards achieving his professional engineering license. He first studied at Humber College where he learned mechanical design concepts like design for manufacturability and assembly, design failure mode analysis, and project management. From there he continued his studies at the University of Windsor where he learned the theoretical and academic side of the engineering trade, even running the school's makerspace to help teach practical design and manufacturing to students during his studies. This unique education path has afforded James a combination of the practical skills as well as theoretical background that is absolutely critical to solving today's toughest design problems. Professionally, James joined the HVAC industry working with Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) where he designed decentralized energy recovery ventilation systems and low-profile unit ventilators. Here James learned the importance of good design and careful planning to meet the growing demand for high-efficiency solutions that prioritize human occupant health and building energy efficiency. Outside his work, James can usually be found in the outdoors hiking, canoeing, or rock climbing. He always stresses the importance of sustainability and energy efficiency in his designs to help protect and conserve the wild spaces he has been so fortunate to call home.
