I was hoping that we wouldn’t have to do this. You know, that obligatory LinkedIn stalk that comes after hearing me speak or meeting me at an event. I can usually avoid talking about myself. Firstly, because in every job interview that I’ve been a part of, I’ve been the interviewer. And secondly, because once someone has seen what I can do, I usually don’t need to say anything more *wink*. But alas, you’re probably here for information gathering purposes. So, I suppose I should overcome my apprehensions and meet you halfway. I'll start by telling you that, in a world filled with ego-driven consultants and antisocial developers, it's my human-ness that sets me apart. All too often, I’ve seen consulting firms strut into organisations, instantly heightening everyone’s defences. And when research tells us that the top reasons for tech projects failing are cultural, that’s a recipe for disaster. That’s why my first goal is always assimilation, working alongside and not above. I know I’ve succeeded when people aren’t sure whether I’m an employee or a consultant, and when I get asked out to Friday drinks. Once I have people onboard, tackling the technical challenges is simple. Because frankly,(hard as this is to write) I can basically do anything when it comes to technology. I deliberately seek out projects that challenge me and, so far, have always delivered to the highest standards. It helps that I often become so invested that I find it hard to stop. With about 90% of my work coming from repeat clients and being almost completely booked out for the next 6 months, it’s clear that I’m doing something right. And it’s definitely not my humour… If I had to guess, I’d say it’s the fact that in me you’ll find the expertise of a whole tech consulting firm in a one-person package. That means real relationships, less communication overhead, and better outcomes. I’m sure they’d say as much. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves – you still need to finish snooping through my life’s accomplishments.
