About James Bates

Some guy doing Theoretical Physics at the University of Sussex. I did some work as a Light Jockey for weddings and corporate events and have worked on live chats and calls (To clarify, I was invited to do this, I didn't just tap the phone lines or something) and working on the development of programs, emails and other things. Through a combination of self teaching, schoolwork, and learning from a parent, I have attained an affinity for the use of Excel and Google Sheets (Particularly the latter), and for finding creative solutions to a wide variety of mathematical and logical problems. I can code in three programming languages and also both HTML and CSS, and for my A-Level computing coursework, produced a functional Genetic Algorithm (a type of AI) that allowed for image compression to very small sizes. Through schooling, I have gained a degree of knowledge in the field of research and physics, and am currently on a Theoretical Physics course at the University of Sussex. I am particularly interested in fringe sciences, such as the relation between relativity and quantum mechanics (and presently subscribe to QFT over string theory). I have experience in the use of the 3D modelling software "Blender", in particular procedural modelling, and in the 2D software "paint.NET". Both of these were used in a GCSE Graphical Communication course, and are currently planned to be used in the development of a massive open world RPG game. Procedural modelling is a technique by which photorealistic surfaces and shapes are produced using nothing but vector mathematics and physical properties, down to the level of Fresnel lensing on a glassy surface. Using this and a combination of compositing, photography skills such as lighting techniques, and camera motion, I have learned how to produce 3D scenes that have received positive reception from peers. I'm always on the lookout for better hardware to make me even more efficient with this. I am deeply invested in acting, and would very much like to gain a role in a science fiction program or film, to which I can lend my knowledge of physics to provide an accurate performance. I also have experience in writing and reading humorous scripts; producing 2D animations for presentations with said scripts; volunteer work; worldbuilding and writing; peer mentoring; basic cooking; hiking and trekking; and taking calculated risks with work and projects. I always try to hold a positive outlook and support my peers. I strive to be the best person I can be and am always willing to try something new.
