About James Brown

I have been the active Operator Owner at Hi-Lo Diner since 2017, I come home smelling like donuts, I love the work of a restaurant. When people ask me how I like running a restaurant I can only compare it to farming, the work never goes away, I had to change the way I think about problems, like farming restaurants have perennial problems that are inevitable, solving the problems that arise is just the work of it all, it is The Work of Life. As an entrepreneur I love working as a Realtor, my diverse work experience has given me unique insight that I use to my clients advantage in commercial and residential representation. Forage Modern Workshop is my venture with my business partner Mike Smith, we are a furniture and home goods store with a focus on Midwest modern design Brownsmith Restoration is where I spend some of my work week, we are a design build residential remodeling company and commercial general contracting firm. We have had the opportunity to work on amazing homes in Minneapolis and St Paul and to build/remodel great local restaurants such as: Blue Door Longfellow, Parka, French Meadow, Peoples Organic, and more. We have a management staff with deep knowledge in design build residential and commercial kitchens and commercial construction.
