About James Buck

I am currently working towards a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting and minoring in Finance & Banking from The Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. During my second year at Appalachian State, I was accepted the Bowden Investment Group. During my time I will manage a fund with a group of other selectively chosen students to try and beat the S&P 500. During this next year, we will pitch to junior and senior fund advisors on equity investments using careful and well researched proposals. This past summer I was an Intern at Fidelity Investments in the institutional investment department. Here, I learned the value of relationship management. I gained an insight on strategies that industry professionals use to engage clients in a meaningful and constructive way. My professional journey includes pivotal roles at SummitPay in Boone, NC, where I served as an Organizing Member. Here, I excelled in financial analysis, client consulting and negotiation, presenting proposals and working closely with small business. Currently, as a Council Member at the Institute of Management Accountants, I contribute actively to local business projects like the Firelight Consulting Project. Also, as a member of the Finance Student Association, I engage in networking, skill-building, and competitions to deepen my industry knowledge. Certified at the Basic preparer level of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, I help local individuals with their Federal and state tax returns. I have also achieved a certification as Microsoft Office Specialist. With a passion for excellence and a commitment to continuous learning, I am eager to leverage my diverse skill set and experience to contribute to dynamic teams and drive impactful results in the accounting and finance sector.
