Background

About James Casserly

I believe that everyone should have an equal chance in life regardless of your ability. I am a football coach and currently travelling 32 county’s of Ireland on public transport to show accessible travel, our available transport and how to do it. I have Cerebral Palsy and Polyarticular Juvenile Arthritis. I am a very keen explorer. I have never feared travel but I am acutely aware of challenges we have to navigate when we wish to do so. With this in mind, and in my opinion, this isn't documented enough, so since April 2022, I decided to embark on a journey to travel the 32 counties of Ireland and beyond to show accessible travel experiences on public transport. Currently, the NTA, Dept of Transport, Minister for Disability, NBRU, Irish Rail, Bus Eireann, Dublin Bus, Dublin Airport, Discover Boyne Valley, Harvey's Point, are amongst a few that are now willing and connecting with me to improve travel experiences. I recently worked with the Ombudsman for Children as a speaker and member of the Youth Advisory Panel for Beyond Limits Summit in Sligo and Limerick where I proved to be very successful in using my voice to empower others. I am very interested in sport and have completed my PDP Level 1 coaching badge and I am working with the FAI to continue my coaching education and encourage others as a disability to do similar if they have the interest. I am the current National Champion in open class Boccia In 2022 I visited European Parliament to do an access review and then spoke at Sports Ireland, Under Dept of Sport on Inclusion in Sport and barriers to participation for persons with a disability or reasons why you may get drop outs.
