About James Cliffe

Hello everyone, my name is James and I am from Ireland. My background is management/engineering and quarry related. Academically I hold two degrees and a masters degree which are also construction/engineering/management related. I graduated in all three majors with 1.1 grades. This is something I am proud of as at one stage in school I was doing all foundation level subjects and had to really work twice as hard as those around me to achieve the same. Learning didn't come naturally to me so I had to learn how to learn before moving forward. I have also completed three University Diplomas in Mineral Extractive Studies, Concrete Studies and Asphalt and Pavement Studies which are more specific to the building materials industry. Furthermore I am also enrolled on a 1 year Certificate in Business Accounting course and have one module left to complete. I've completed two dissertations - one is entitled "Site Investigation and the New Government Contracts"​. The other is entitled:"An Investigation Into the Effects of the Inherent Human Factors Which Impact the Process of Construction Project Risk Management. Both are housed in Luke Wadding library in WIT. I've also spent one year abroad teaching in a private school in China (gap year which I highly recommend to discover yourself and become vulnerable - makes you more resilient I found). In addition to the above I have various other work experiences as can be seen from my profile. These include working as Quality Supervisor, Tar and Chipping Operator/Supervisor, Engineering Intern, EHS Intern, an Engineer with CRH, working as Assistant Mobile Crushing Manager and my current roles which are looking after Roadstone's National Mobile Crushing Division & Huntstown Quarry. Management of our Mobile Crushing Division is strategically a very importance part of the business and reports directly to our Operations Director. As a professional, I am extremely hardworking and committed. I am always trying to improve myself and become more aware of both my strengths and weaknesses. I enjoy challenges and am very keen on self-development. My aim is to be as good as I can be, to grow and learn and fulfill my true potential. My core strengths would include: delivering results, teamwork, planning, organization & communication. In the future I plan to work more on my leadership skills because long-term my ambition is to be a director/MD in a CRH company. A weakness for me is I can be a bit introverted if you don't know me so well. This and networking with newer groups is something I am avidly making efforts to address.
