Background

About James Crane

James O. Crane served 25 years with the Metropolitan Police Department, District of Columbia, retiring at the rank of Commander having acted as a Project and Program Manager on many sensitive and critical assignments, from managing the District of Columbia’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to coordinating operations with the U.S. Secret Service and State Department as Commander of the Special Operations Division. This included dignitary protection for the First Family, the Vice President and visiting heads of state as well as coordinating joint efforts with regional and federal partners on large events and unplanned incidents. James supervised a number of Divisions within MPD, ranging in size from 75 to 375 officers and civilians. In 2010, James became MPD's first Director of its Tactical Information Division (TID) which sought to bridge the gaps in project management between IT and operations. He has also been actively involved in regional public safety communications initiatives, including as a member of the National Capital Region Law Enforcement Information Exchange Executive Committee, the District of Columbia Interoperability Communication Committee (2013 Chair), and the Capital Wireless Integration Network Executive Board. As a Pubic Safety SME for CTE Technology and Energy, James has helped coordinate assessment and outreach for the District of Columbia and the State of Delaware’s ongoing consideration of the FirstNet Public Safety Broadband Network, contributed to the integration of public safety needs into Smart Cities projects, and assisted clients with site assessment and governance on projects including CCTV, Land Mobile Radio and Broadband. In addition to consulting on these and other ongoing projects, James has served as the Facilities Coordinator for the Prince George's County, Maryland Telecommunications Transmission Facility Coordinating Committee (TTFCC) since 2017.
