James DeCocq has over 15 years experience in private and public government administration. A strong believer in our responsibility to the environment, James was responsible for the historical Key Biscayne, FL beach restoration. He has been Assistant City Manager for the Village of Key Biscayne, the City of Sunny Isles Beach, and the City of Marathon. He was also City Manager of Sunny Isles Beach and the City of Marathon. As District Manager for three government consulting firms, James has been involved with over 150 Florida communities, many with over 2,500 homes, managing as many as 52 Community Development Districts at one time, with combined budgets of over $100 million per year. In each case, he worked in tandem with the respective HOAs/POAs to develop and deliver high quality services within budget, while holding tax rates steady. James has lived in Avalon Park, a resident community, for four and one-half years with his wife Mayra Etayo-DeCocq and his three year old daugher. For three years, he served on the APPOA Board. He has spent the last year and one-half building his government efficiency business.growing his government efficiency and environmental solutions company. His professional life has been dedicated to increasing local control and citizen oversight of our neighborhoods and communities. James believes his experience as a small business owner and expertise in creating and sustaining cost-efficient local municipalities are needed more than ever during this time of declining revenues and increased demand for government services. In October 2009, James announced his candidacy for Florida House of Represenatives, District 33 confident that his knowledge and experience will maximize his productivity in the Florida House.
