About James Deere

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Honors Program at DePaul University, where I studied Sociology, Peace, Justice, and Conflict Studies, and Philosophy with a focus on criminology and restorative justice. Through my involvement with organizations that advocate against incarceration and amplify the voices of incarcerated people, I have built a strong working knowledge of both the United States prison industrial complex and decarceration efforts. I am dedicated to advocacy for people impacted by incarceration and police violence while working through an abolitionist framework to create accountability, healing, and justice. I have also demonstrated strong skills in customer service from working for 3+ years in the coffee industry; social media management for social justice-oriented organizations; curriculum design on topics of restorative justice and LGBTQ rights; and interpersonal communication & team building skills.
