About James Doherty

I'm a Environmental Science and Management (MSc) graduate from the University of York with a passion for cold environments and glaciology, species distribution modelling, GIS and flood risk management. Interested in current environmental legislation and the direction the world, the nation, companies and the public are moving towards a sustainable and environmentally conscious system. Former Chair of FragSoc (University of York's Gaming and Esports Society), taking overall responsibility for the direction of the society in a post-Covid context, managing and delegating a team involved in the production, advertising and competition of nationwide gaming and esports events. This has enabled me to develop skills in quick-thinking, team management, and the will to face hard decisions and power through difficult times. I have worked as a front-of-house team member for my local National Trust property since leaving upper sixth, giving me the experience of teamwork, communication (both internal and public) and has proven instrumental in developing my ability to cope with pressure and deadlines. Having lived in Doha, Qatar for much of my primary and secondary education, as well as a further two years in Mallorca, Spain for my IGCSEs, I have a love for travel, languages, and of course geography. I love music of all types and have recently got back in touch with my musical past through piano, singing and guitar. I also enjoy competitive sim racing as well as language learning, coming from my international background. I have a solid understanding of Spanish as well as some knowledge of Arabic and am looking to relearn, alongside my current language interest of Korean.
