About James Galan

Legal Counsel with years of experience advising on insurance, disability contracts, employment law, litigation strategy, privacy compliance, and regulatory risk. I have negotiated agreements, including service agreements, contracts, licensing agreements, vendor agreements, employment contracts, and product terms and conditions across insurance, employment, and business development service sectors. I have appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, WSIAT, LAT, FSCO, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, and have acted as lead counsel in a jury trial. As the founder of Galan Law Firm, I built and led a 15-person team, overseeing firm operations, litigation, marketing, client development, and mentorship. I understand how to balance legal risk with business initiatives. I hold J.D. degrees from Michigan State University College of Law and the University of Ottawa, and was awarded the Jurisprudence Achievement Award in Competitive Negotiation. I’ve earned certifications from Harvard (Data Privacy & Technology) and Osgoode Hall Law School (Privacy & Cybersecurity Law), and I’m actively pursuing CIPP/C and CIPM through the IAPP. I am an Ontario Scholar Award recipient and have pursued Spanish studies at the University of Málaga and University of Havana. I supported strategic international partnerships at a wireless technology company, which gave me a front-row seat to how fast-moving organizations manage legal and operational complexities.
