About James Geary

My career has equipped me with three strings to my bow: business development, specialist expertise in clinical waste disposal, and my thirst and enduring enthusiasm for transport management. I started my working life as a traffic controller at Biffa, routing and scheduling a fleet of 20 heavy goods vehicles. Biffa encouraged me to gain certificates in National Road Haulage Operations and NEBS Management. Headhunted by London Waste, I built a waste collection service. This involved establishing and controlling a fleet of vehicles and recruiting a team of drivers. It also entailed negotiation of contracts for servicing, maintenance and fuel. Within 2 years, I developed this section of the business into a £multimillion success. It is also here that I first ventured into the clinical waste sector. Headhunted once more, I moved to Cliniserve where the clinical waste and business development aspects of my role became much more predominant. I grew turnover and, more importantly, profitability, rising from general manager to managing director. I established two clinical waste treatment facilities and six depots to serve the whole of the UK with a fleet of 100 vehicles. Such a success story resulted in an offer we could not refuse. We sold the company to a major US group. After signing a non-compete clause, I have since concentrated on providing consultancy on clinical waste issues, but I would dearly love to return to a hands-on fleet management role.
