About James Gillard

Freelance Data Scientist and Product Owner focused on ocean data, machine learning and AI technologies to advance ocean conservation efforts. Currently Product Owner at blueOASIS for an AI-based, marine species classification and quantification tool for conservation and aquaculture. Building on 12 years in maritime/oceanographic technology, I recently graduated from a professional programme with MIT in "Applied Data Science and AI". Strengthening my data analysis and ML model development skills, I aim to leverage my extensive maritime background to help develop ML/AI solutions for pro-ocean initiatives. In my previous role with Schmidt Ocean Institute, I developed a deep skill base in technical scientific support at sea, enabling resident scientists to deliver on cruise specific goals. This experience cemented my desire to develop solutions contributing to healthier ecosystems and sustainable ocean use. My marine systems technology experience coupled with my AI/ML knowledge allows me to offer a unique and skills blend to projects in this space.
