Background
About James Golby
One of the themes of my career has been building bridges to enable the passage of people, ideas, and different points of view. When I was in the Army, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, I oversaw the building of passageways in the construction of the largest capacity Entry Control Point in Iraq. These structures helped safeguard the soldiers and contractors under my protection. Later, as my career shifted to the working in the civilian foreign policy world, I often served to bridge the divide between military and civilian personnel to explain the perspectives of each constituency. I served as a foreign policy advisor for two Vice Presidents on different sides of the political aisle and am proud to have bridged the partisan divide to provide both with trustworthy, honest, and valuable advice based on data, facts, and expertise. In my current role at HP, I have built a bridge to communicate to executive decision-makers the business impact of geopolitical events happening across the globe. At HP, I lean heavily on my background analyzing geopolitical trends and international trade policy to advise leaders on corporate strategies. Based on my analysis and research, I have made recommendations and implemented numerous initiatives to strengthen HP’s global position, including: Conducted tabletop exercise for executive team to test corporate response to a potential Asian crisis, to identify gaps in the current plans and provide data to refine the action plan. Led cross-functional team in a strategic effort to identify geopolitical risks and de-risk operations in Asia in support of supply chain diversification. Created enterprise-level geopolitical risk program that identifies most pressing geopolitical trends and potential crises and institutes semi-annual tabletop exercises for senior executives. Coordinated with 6 national and international trade groups to shape the regulatory environment for novel technological advancements in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In Austin, where I live, the 360 Bridge crossing Lake Austin is constructed so that no part of the structure touches the water. It carries cars across Lake Austin but keeps the lake itself free from support columns so people can boat freely beneath. It is also a beautiful place to watch the sunset. In this case, a bridge is a place to relax and enjoy the view: National Security | Government Relations | Business Strategy | Data Analysis | Project Management | Team Building Contact: jimgolby@gmail.com
