About James Hamilton

I am an explorer, a curious scientist constantly searching for knowledge and truth to transcend. During my more than 30 years as a Digestive Surgeon, I have always been in continuous innovation, in order to accompany my patients with advanced solutions that offer them the best quality of life. My specializations in Bariatric and Robotic Surgery has allowed me to perform more than complex abdominal surgeries and more than robotic surgeries. My clinical and personal experiences led me to become interested in Epigenetics in order to understand the impact on human health of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), nutrition and the environment. Thanks to my research and studies, I was able to defend the scientific principles that support the Law that declares imprescriptible sexual crimes against minors, enacted in Chile in 2019. Currently I combine my surgical activity with research, teaching and dissemination through conferences, books and scientific articles. As Vice President of the CUIDA Research Center, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Fundación para la Confianza, I lead a diverse group of scientists in research on the impact of abuse and adverse childhood events on chronic diseases and how to counteract the damage.
