About James Hanson

I am a Principal in the Capital Markets group of Avison Young and a Co-Head of the firm's Corporate Finance practice. Based on my over 30 years of real estate experience, I provide highly creative solutions to solve clients' real estate capital markets needs. Strategies I have advised clients on include sale leaseback transactions, investment sales, debt financings and development financings. My expertise includes transaction structuring and execution at all levels of the capital stack including senior debt, mezzanine debt, preferred equity and joint venture equity. Property types include office, industrial, retail and residential. Over the course of my career, I have advised on over $5 billion of real estate capital markets opportunities. Two notable transactions I closed in 2022 include a $90 million build-to-suit, sale leaseback transaction to facilitate the construction of a 1 million square foot ceramic tile manufacturing facility outside of Nashville, TN and the sale of for $325 million of a cutting edge, 2.68 million square foot, Amazon AR Sort Fulfillment Center located outside of Des Moines, IA structured as a zero cash flow transaction.
