Currently serving as a Training Captain for a 300-person fire department, I lead training initiatives to prepare our team for evolving emergency response demands. I collaborate with fire service personnel to develop, implement, and refine programs, ensuring operational readiness and safety. I oversee lesson plans, training schedules, and records management, utilizing data-driven insights to optimize resources and effectiveness. Safety is central—I establish protocols, conduct risk assessments, and enforce standards to maintain a resilient, compliant environment. I’ve played a key role in updating Standard Operating Procedures to ensure operational consistency. I advise leadership on technological advancements, procedures, and training innovations. I serve as my department’s Regional Training Centre Coordinator, supporting fire training across Ontario. This includes the functional management of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Learning Portal, which provides our staff access to training courses, learning history, and tools for managing firefighter education. I also regularly audit staff NFPA certifications to ensure compliance and readiness for upcoming mandatory certification requirements. With extensive firefighting experience, I have a solid foundation in fire suppression, rescue tactics, and apparatus operations. This frontline knowledge informs my approach to training, incident response, and safety management. Beyond firefighting, I bring expertise in marine engineering, federal level program delivery, and technical systems management—covering search and rescue, environmental protection, and aids to navigation. I possess deep knowledge of multi-system shipboard operations, including propulsion, electrical, hydraulics, and machinery maintenance. I am proficient in using Learning Management Systems like Vector Solutions to enhance training delivery. Additionally, I contribute to municipal emergency management tabletop exercises by leveraging video editing and content creation skills to develop realistic scenarios that improve preparedness and inter-agency coordination.
