About James Hobson

I am a Research Coordinator working within the CELT Chemistry Group, based within Department of Chemistry. Led by Prof. Steve Rannard, the group is investigating novel material and formulation approaches to overcome current limitations in poorly water-soluble drug therapies, particularly focused on long-acting antiviral and antimicrobial therapies. I have a multidiscipline background, having worked in the areas of Materials and Formulation Chemistry, Pharmacology, Immunology, and Biological Containment Level 3 during the course of my career to date. My PhD studies allowed me to develop the necessary skills to take a novel formulation from concept, through materials development, and on to pre-clinical assessment. I have previously, and continue to, work on large collaborative projects between the Department of Chemistry and Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, based at University of Liverpool, and numerous academic, public, and private sector stakeholders, interested in advancing the field of long-acting therapeutics. My current research involves a multitude of formulation based approaches to developing novel excipients, drug therapies, dosage forms, and long-acting options for improving and/or re-purposing existing therapies. To this end I am based within the Centre of Excellence for Long-acting Therapeutics and the Department of Chemistry.
