About James Jacklin

Since I have competed my apprenticeship at Caterpillar in 2019, I have only worked in engineering environments (which is a passion of mine). Shortly after my apprenticeship ended I worked for a company called “Solvay” based in Heanor. Solvay specialised in manufacturing carbon fibre pre-pegs for different engineering applications, such as aircraft’s and cars used for motorsport racing. My job was to ensure these pre-pegs was manufactured correctly and was up to quality standards, I worked with a handful of people at the same time on one big machine, however I felt the company did not meet my expectations of being challenged so I moved on to work for JCB in Rocester. I was a production operative working on the Backhoe loader production line which was a very fast pace working environment, my job was to fit the excavator arm to said backhoe loaders. I would also carry out occasional rectifying on these machines which really improved my problem solving skills in the workplace and did help me significantly with my current job as a service engineer for a company called Hydro based in Derby. My job role at Hydro is an “ESR operative” (Engine Stand Refurbishment) as an ESR operative, it is my job to make sure that these engine stands (used for aircraft engines such as commercial airlines) are safe to use and are in perfect working order. Each day would offer me something new and exciting.
