Background
About James Jackson
A First-Class Honours Graduate from the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, I have broad experience across the psychological sector and strive to identify new ways to improve the lives of people from all walks of life. Always keen to work, I supported myself through tertiary education in the disability support, hospitality, and labouring industries while holding volunteer roles in research, journalism, and suicide crisis support. These diverse experiences have taught me responsibility and professionalism in private and team settings. Within the research industry, I am passionate about open, reproducible neuroscience, and I have a deep appreciation for the importance of independent learning and time management. Meanwhile, my experience in psychological intervention and support has illustrated for me the essential value of self-reflection, active listening, and compassion while teaching me to maintain a clear head during times of crisis and distress. During my second and third years of study, I held a research internship in the Health Psychology sector under Dr. Joshua Wiley. I led recruitment and the implementation of a novel physiological tracking device (Empatica E4) in the Stress and Health study, examining international and interstate student wellbeing. See my alumni blurb here: https://joshuawiley.com/alumni.html Throughout my Honours course, I completed training for Lifeline Telephone Crisis Support Services, and conducted an independent neuro-imaging study mapping divergent neuroactivity in individuals with Autism. Throughout this project, I undertook profound self-directed learning and honed my research and writing skills to a first-class level. An abstract and poster detailing my findings were featured at the 2021 MRI Together conference on reproducibility and open-source neuroscience.
