About James Johnston

In my career I have strived for clinical excellence, focusing on cardiovascular intervention in the last 14 years. I have mastered skills as a cardiothoracic surgical assistant in the surgical arena, a cardiovascular invasive specialist in the cardiac cathlab, and procedures in the hybrid surgical percutanous surgical suites. During my work in the cathlab at Forsyth Medical Center (FMC), I also served as a clinical preceptor for a number of years in the cardiovascular technology program of Forsyth Community College. I was awarded the Clinical Preceptor of the Year. I also serve as clinical preceptor for new hires in the cathlab, teaching all functions and skills in the care of the cardiovascular patients. I also served as the co-chair for the Acute MI committee which coordinated the care of STEMI patient at FMC. This and other accomplishments at FMC provided me with a level IV Career Ladder award. This award requires performance at a high level above the requirement of the job, including database management of the HeartLab archiving system, development of clinical policies, and active participation in Nursing Resource Committees. All told, I have 31 years in various areas of acute care nursing and procedures.
