About James Kearney

An experienced management consultant who leads multi-functional teams to scope and deliver complex projects and programmes to help address his clients’ biggest strategic challenges, typically across Defence and other highly regulated industries. He employs a blend of consulting and technical delivery approaches to work with his clients to help them deliver engineering and transformation initiatives. James has a solid grounding across a range of disciplines, including Systems Thinking & Engineering, as well as Business Analysis & Design which he combines with his core consulting & project & change management skills to meet his clients' biggest challenges. Key milestones / achievements: Led a team of op modellers, analysts and project managers to design and implement a new function called the 'Land S&T Hub' at Dstl to support the exploitation of Dstl's Science & Tech (S&T) and to help bring the best of Dstl to the Army. The new function comprised of 7 new client team roles and is now helping to better connect Dstl to its Army customers. Delivered a technology strategy & future implementation roadmap for a critical business unit operating within the National Crime Agency (NCA). The strategy encompassed the infrastructure and applications required for the NCA to deliver cutting-edge law enforcement work in the future, whilst also addressing existing capacity and skills challenges. Led the early stage design work of the operating model for the MoD’s Integration Design Authority (IDA) as part of UKStratCom's Multi-Domain Integration Change Programme. Led the design and delivery of an operating model for a major part of the new UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The new operating model was developed for the migration from Public Health England to UKHSA and directly impacted the ongoing roles of circa 300 people. Led a team of BAs at a large utilities provider to establish the technical and organisational capability required to roll out SMART energy meters to business customers. Has worked on some of the largest and most complex programmes in the UK public sector. Was previously a Systems Engineer with Selex Galileo (now Leonardo) in the land vehicles business area and helped to develop the next generation of digital mission systems for Armoured Fighting Vehicles and tanks.
