About James Lerch

For the last four and a half years I have been teaching Advanced Placement Economics (both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics) as well as Honors Economics at University HS in Tucson. I was chosen by the Arizona Council on Economic Education as their Educator of the Year for 2018. I was also chosen as southern Arizona’s Educator of the Year for 2018-19. In addition to my teaching duties, I am a designated Thomas R. Brown Teacher-In-Residence, helping colleagues teach with as much effect as possible, and teaching various workshops. I also normally help with the Summer Economics Institute at the University of Arizona, a two week educational opportunity for teachers to learn more economics (and how to teach it). Before the pandemic I helped teach the Third Decade Program, a program designed to instill healthy personal financial decision-making by those living in their 20s and 30s. However, my work experience extends beyond Economics teaching. I have been a high school humanities teacher since 2004. Before becoming a high school teacher, I was an attorney for fourteen years. I have taught Advanced Placement courses, including AP US History, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP World History, AP US Government, AP Comparative Government and AP Psychology. During my last year of overseas teaching I taught IB History (SL) and IB Economics (SL and HL) Specialties: I have attended Advanced Placement Institutes for Economics, World History, US History, Comparative Government, and English Language and Composition, as well as IB training for Economics.
