James Libby, Ph.D. Titles: Professor of Business, Thomas College; Maine Senator Degrees: Ph.D, University of Maine; C.A.S, University of Maine; M.B.A, St. Bonaventure University; B.S, Nasson College Short Biography: Dr. James D. Libby is a State Senator and Professor of Business Administration at Thomas College. He is the former Academic Dean at Thomas College. Dr. Libby has been a faculty member at Thomas since 2002, and he has served as the Chair of the Department of Business Administration there. He has written four books, including "Super U: The History and Politics of the University of Maine System," and a 2009 publication entitled,"Buxton: A Postcard History", along with several newspaper contributions and guest editorials. Jim Libby was also a two-term State Representative and three-term State Senator, serving in the Maine Legislature from and from 2023-present. In 2002 he received 33.3% of the vote in the state-wide gubernatorial primary election. He has served as a Trustee for the Maine Community College System, the Waterville Opera House, and for the Jobs for Maine’s Graduates Program, a program which he was a founding co-sponsor as a legislator. He is a former political consultant for WGAN Radio in Portland, Maine and was an Advisory Committee for the Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging. While at Thomas College, Jim also served as Internship Director, Faculty Senate President, Head Men's Basketball Coach, Head Women's Basketball Coach, and Head Golf Coach. Past employers include GTE, Corning, Colby College, St. Joseph's College, Sanford High School, and Gorham High School. From 2016 – 2023, Jim was a visiting faculty member at Colby College, as well as an applied economist there. He was also the Chief Operating Officer for Hoop Basketball Camp, located on Pleasant Lake in Casco, Maine. Jim is married to Jennifer M.(Peternel) Libby, and has two children, Grace and Brett.
