About James Matson

Mr. Matson has more than twenty-five years of experience in marketing, developing, researching, writing, and teaching for government, private, and non-profit organizations on food systems. He has assisted more than producer and rural organizations by creating business plans, feasibility studies, and marketing plans. He has personally authored over 150 feasibility studies, and assisted with hundreds of other studies. He has helped client secure more than $100M of grant funds for their projects. Mr. Matson has a long history of creating marketing solutions through the creation of business and marketing plans that have resulted in millions of dollars of sales. He has worked extensively with local food, farm based ciderys and distilleries. Mr. Matson has extensive experience in almost all facets of the grant process; an experienced grant expert. He has authored more than 30 works for scholarly, industrial, and popular publications including USDA’s “A Cooperative Feasibility Study Guide” (USDA SR-58) “The Role of Food Hubs in Local Food Marketing” (USDA SR- 73), and in 2015 Running a Food Hub: Lessons Learned From The Field (USDA SR-77)
