James McDermott is a Norfolk based scriptwriter, performance poet and creative writing teacher represented by Independent Talent and published by Samuel French & Burning Eye Books. James graduated from The University of East Anglia with First Class BA Hons in Scriptwriting & Performance and an MA (Distinction) in Scriptwriting. James trained on The Royal Court Writers Group, Soho Theatre's Writers Lab and Hampstead Theatre's Inspire: The Next Playwright Programme. James is currently taking part on the EastEnders Writers Shadow Scheme. James’s latest play 'Time and Tide', which was longlisted for The Bruntwood and Papatango Playwriting Prizes, ran at Park Theatre in February 2020. It was nominated for an Off West End Theatre Award for New Play. James's other plays include 'Fast Food' starring Jude Law (Lyric Hammersmith; Lyric Gala),'Uniform'(Oldham Coliseum),'Street Life'(Norwich Theatre Royal Stage Two),'Man Hug'(Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds; Winner of Anglian Voices Playwriting Competition) and 'Rubber Ring'(Pleasance Islington; UK Tour; winner of Pulse Festival's Suitcase Prize). James's debut poetry collection 'Manatomy' is published by Burning Eye Books. James is currently writing his second poetry collection with mentoring from Richard Scott.
