About James McDermott

My career goal in life is to protect land and environment through public service. I am enrolled in university to pursue these career goals. Ultimately, I see myself working in a leadership position at Federal, State, Local and Non-Profit organizations dedicated to protecting environmental rights. In pursing this goal, I have made numerous accomplishments which include organizing the Climate March on Colorado in July 2018, creating a Day of Dialogue on Overpopulation and Sustainability (in co-operation with the MAHB, WWF, the Center for Biodiversity and NOAA) at my high school in Colorado and teaching a class on Overpopulation and Diversity which was reported on Colorado Public Radio. My experiences are diverse and range from paleontology, health sciences, theatre and video production, Non-profit management, canvassing, bicycle mechanics and environmental policy. In each of these pursuits, I have maintained leadership positions, with a focus on teamwork, excellence, efficiency, community and respect. Some of my accomplishments include the Profile of Courage Award from The Shaka Franklin Foundation for Youth in recognition of my activism in preventing gun violence in Colorado, and a resolution from the Denver City Council and the State Congress in support of our efforts to prevent gun violence and pass bipartisan legislation to save lives. I have played a role in several scientific studies, from discovery of new prehistoric species to nutrition, taste and genetics. I have worked with Governor Jared Polis, Congressman Jason Crow, Dr. Robert Bakker, Dr. Matthew Smith, Dr. Paul R. Ehrlich, and several other distinguished professionals in the fields of political, environmental and STEM sciences as well as public service. These experiences and accomplishments have contributed as greatly to my education as my academic success in the classroom and have prepared me to be an innovative leader with the skills to tackle any challenge with the upmost work ethic.
