Background
About James Melvin
The process of project management has always been very satisfying to me. Leading teams to complete construction projects – from designs on a blueprint to a completed multimillion-dollar building – is something I have done for more than 15 years as an officer in the Air Force. I have the knowledge and experience to build things - I even served as the General Contractor on building my own house. I know how to plan projects of all scope, size and type from homes to large commercial facilities. However, as an experienced leader who has filled roles in the Air Force that are similar to a City Manager and Director of Public Works, I also have the leadership skills to manage large teams and oversee high-level programs.I am a personable and engaging communicator, and I have experience interacting with people at all organizational levels. I spent almost 3 years as the CENTCOM Congressional Engagements Chief where I regularly interfaced with command General/Flag officer leadership and Legislative members and staffers. However, I also can speak to all types of contractors and construction specialists to ensure each project is completed to exact quality and safety specifications. I am known for my straightforward approach to issues so that my team always has clear knowledge of expectations and standards. You will find that I excel at finding cost-effective solutions that keep projects on track to be completed on time and within budget without sacrificing safety or quality. I would like to continue to leverage these skills to make an impact as I wrap up my service in the Air Force and embark on the next phase of my career in June of 2025. I can be reached at jmelvin@live.com to discuss opportunities that align with my experience and skills.
