About James Newton

I am a 4th year Chemical Engineering Undergraduate who is passionate about sustainability. Throughout my degree, I have chosen multiple optional modules which are based on sustainability, with a particular focus on renewable energy. I am currently completing a research project which involves extracting global energy data and forming trends to compare energy usage, carbon dioxide emissions, electric vehicle uptake, transition to a hydrogen economy, and renewable energy project development. I am interested in making a positive impact on the environment through finance and consulting, with a particular interest in ESG investment and development. During the summer, I had the opportunity to meet with the sustainability team at Cardano, a fiduciary and risk management firm based in London. I learned about the world of sustainable investment, being given insight into the decision-making process on whether an investment is considered suitable for ESG investing. My placement year in Audit at PwC has allowed me to gain financial insight into businesses in various sectors, and I have learned how to read and understand a set of financial statements. I developed my team working skills, working with several different teams for each different client. My time management skills were also improved, becoming able to balance the strict deadlines of an audit with individual study for my professional ACA qualification exams, of which I passed all seven, including 5 Certificate and 2 Professional level exams. I would love to develop my professional skills in order to help develop a more sustainable future for everyone.
