Background
About James Paredes
I’m someone who moves with urgency and intention. I don’t wait for ideal conditions. I build within what’s available and still expect excellence from myself. I’ve never been afraid of doing more or asking why things are done the way they are. I push for better, for deeper understanding, for real outcomes. My path wasn’t shaped by convenience. It was shaped by curiosity, discipline, and a constant need to turn opportunity into something lasting. I don’t look for shortcuts. I look for meaning. I graduated from UC Irvine with four majors across law, economics, politics, and social systems. I’ve worked in Washington D.C. on international trade policy, traveled to Mexico to conduct fieldwork with nonprofit leaders, and led a student organization through financial strain into a period of growth. Right now, I serve as a Research Project Assistant on a sociology study funded by the Society of Hellman Fellows, examining how upwardly mobile adults from working-class backgrounds navigate career decisions, family, and wealth in the face of inequality. These experiences weren’t handed to me. I earned them through consistency, curiosity, and the belief that my work should matter beyond a classroom or a resume. I don’t show up to impress people. I show up because I believe in building something that lasts. I carry the weight of where I come from and the hope of what I know is possible. My story isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence. I care about the details most people overlook and the people most systems forget. I’m not trying to be the loudest voice in the room. I’m focused on being the one who follows through. If I join a team, I give it everything. If I step into a challenge, I stay with it until the end. I’m here to do work that speaks for itself, and I’m just getting started.
