I lead a small department that utilises multiple imaging techniques to research the function of the circulatory and cardiorespiratory systems in vivo. These techniques are being applied to investigate the mechanisms involved in the origins of diabetic cardiomyopathy, hypertension and heart failure and the efficacy of novel therapies for these conditions. We openly collaborate with groups from institutes and universities in Australia, Japan, Germany and Denmark. Increasingly we are incorporating omics analyses and cell based protocols into our research approach to understand the heterogeneity in pathophysiology and crosstalk between different cell types in cardiovascular organs.
