About James Portner

Passionate Leader, Program Development, Clinical Supervisor, Consultant and Trainer of Evidence Based Practices (EBP).I received my Bachelors and Masters degrees from the College of Social Work at The Ohio State University. Since 2005, I have been working in private practice and in community mental health as a front line clinician, program coordinator and clinical trainer. I have worked extensively with Case Western Reserve’s Center of Evidence Based Practices (CEBP) in the role of coordinating the implementation of Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) programs. I received intensive training in the practice of Motivational Interviewing by Case Western Reserve CEBP as a clinician and supervisor. I have also been trained through the Veterans Administration as a Consultant/Trainer of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is another passion of mine. I have been trained extensively through Behavioral Tech and Marsha Linehan in the implementation and delivery of DBT. In the Spring of 2014 I had the privilege of being intensively trained in the newly developed Radically Open-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) by Thomas Lynch, PHD. Licensed Independent Social Worker-Supervisor (LISW-S), Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor-Clinical Supervisor (LICDC-CS) & Board Certified Diplomat (BCD).
