About James Pratt

As a recent PhD graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder, I am passionate about unraveling complex biological mechanisms that drive neurodegenerative diseases. My doctoral research focused on understanding tau-RNA binding protein interactions and their implications for neurodegenerative diseases. Specifically, I characterized how polyserine domains mediate tau interactions with SRRM2 and PNN to drive tau fibrilization in vitro and in cells. With a robust foundation in molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry, and microscopy, I bring expertise in advanced techniques such as CRISPaint genome editing, recombinant protein purification, and high-resolution live-cell imaging. I am also skilled in data analysis using tools like GraphPad Prism and ImageJ, and adept at designing and conducting assays to elucidate protein interactions and enzymatic activity. Beyond research, I have mentored graduate students, co-founded the CU Boulder Biochemistry Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and been recognized for my teaching excellence. I am eager to bring my innovative problem-solving, technical expertise, and collaborative spirit to a biotech role where I can contribute to advancing therapeutic solutions and fostering scientific innovation.
