Background
About James Ray
I am a music educator and performer serving on the faculty of Western Washington University. Specializing in instrumental music education, I teach courses in ensemble methods, string pedagogy, as well as music theory. As a conductor, I lead WWU’s String Sinfonia, and am also the music director of the Olympic Strings Workshop. Previous experience includes twelve years as a K-12 string teacher, most recently as director of orchestras at Port Angeles High School in Washington State.I thoroughly enjoy working with schools and musical organizations as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician. I have also established a presence in peer-reviewed publications, including the American String Teacher and the Journal of Research in Music Education.I welcome opportunities to interact with pre- and in-service educators as we work to use music as a vehicle for elevating and enriching the students’ lives.
