About James Renwick

James is a senior lawyer with significant international experience in treasury, finance and banking with a particular focus across the last decade in high value strategic transactions in the oil and gas sector. I have considerable in-house and private practice experience of providing advice to senior management on material transactions with a successful history of engagement with internal and external stakeholders across multiple business areas and geographies at all levels. I have a strong track record of ensuring successful delivery of complex deals, across an unusually broad range of the treasury, financing and banking spectrum. In recent years I have been the global lead on multi‐source project financings and complex financial and capex mitigation structures. I combine extensive commercial skills with a deep technical expertise, and I am sought out for help and advice in relation to all aspects (commercial and legal) of challenging financings and financial or event driven structures. I have a proven background of team leadership and delivery across a broad range of disciplines and a strong story of internal and external recognition, including: • one of Legal Business Magazine’s Rising Stars for 2014 – anonymous comments included: “Measured, commercial and extremely clever.[James] can manage a huge workload and his intellect is such that he can cover a wide range of areas almost effortlessly.”; • BP Helios Award winner ‐ for work on the response to the financial impact on BP of the Deepwater Horizon accident, including leading the legal advice on a number of innovative financings; and • Helios award finalist in 2019 ‐ for work on the TAP project financing.
