About James Scholtz

I'm a very 'out-of-the box' thinker in terms of providing programs, services and materials for library customers - sometimes I don't even have a box! My overall management objective is to constantly streamline and simplify policies, procedures and routines to save money, provide efficient services, collections people want and use, and to empower staff to make front line decisions. I'm a buck-stops here, no-nonsense, take responsibility and get the job done in a timely fashion kind of guy. I also do my homework, involve the right people, in and out of the organization and do the job in a 'smart' way. I've been involved in all sorts of libraries since 1980 - public, academic and system - big city/small town and district libraries. My strengths involve being an excellent manager and project supervisor, managing people and situations, working with different technology, budgeting and dealing with change as a change-agent. I'm also an excellent strategic planner and forward thinker. I have authored numerous articles and 6 books on video technology, been a speaker on many state/national forums and served as a library consultant for many state and national (ALA, NMM) associations.
