About James Shamul
Hello my name is James Shamul and I am a current PhD student in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland. I have a very strong education and research background in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University with a specific research focus in biomaterials and drug delivery with polymeric nanoparticles in Dr. Jordan Green's laboratory in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. My previous projects in the Jordan J. Green Group at Johns Hopkins encompassed the chemical synthesis of Poly(Beta-amino ester) block copolymers to formulate micelles for encapsulation of anticancer small molecular drugs, and anisotropic micellar systems for cancer therapy. I am currently a graduate research assistant in Dr. Xiaoming "Shawn" He's laboratory at University of Maryland for my PhD training. My current projects include the development of a more optimal model for the Blood Brain Barrier to better understand its function and provide a high throughput way to test novel drug formulations including nanoparticles and other biomaterials.
