About James Simpson

I am a full member of the ACCA and AAT with over 20 years accountancy experience. I am currently working at AFP Services Ltd who provide outsources finance and operational services to SMEs. I joined AFP in 2012 as a Financial Accounts Assistant where I was responsible for the day to day running of the accounts for a portfolio of clients.As AFP expanded so did the opportunities for career progression with the creation of the Team Manager position that I have held since September 2016. As well as elements of the Financial Accounts Assistant role I am also responsible for training and mentoring a small team of Financial Accounts Assistances, ensuring accuracy of my teams work, process improvement, ensuring effective communication between teams and administration of auto enrolment pension schemes.Working at AFP has allowed me to work with range of businesses from established companies to entrepreneurial start ups, who operate in a range of industries including public relations, software development and retail. However food and drinks manufacturers make up the largest proportion of our clients, meaning we regularly deal with large supermarkets and EDI systems. My job can sometimes be challenging as I have to manage the needs of a number of clients and my team, but it is also rewarding as we get to work closely with our clients, many of them seeing us as critical part of their company. The varied nature of the work means no two days are the same and there are plenty of opportunities to learn.
