Background
About James Slade
Born in British Columbia, James grew up surrounded by the wildlife of the Canadian West Coast. Following many years living in the Scottish highlands and travelling, James relocated to Africa, where he made his home for the past 10 years. Studying and training in Hoedspruit, South Africa, He relocated to Namibia in 2009 to began work with the Cheetah Conservation Fund. James continued to work in the area of reserve management as well as taking on duties including the release and tracking of previously captive held animals and the immobilization (darting) of cheetah, alongside veterinary staff. During this time, James became actively interested in the anti-poaching aspects of his work and this led him to seek opportunities in the law enforcement sector of protected area management. On a trip throughout Zimbabwe and Zambia, James met with the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF) founders and returned several months later to start work full time with the organization, eventually working as the Operations Manager for Zimbabwe. He departed the IAPF in 2016 in order to further his passion for working with anti-poaching operations, in the wilderness region of Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe. James worked for the Bumi Hills Foundation and helped manage the Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit (BHAPU), under the capacity of operations, training and the use of the SMART Conservation Software program until December 2017. Returning to Canada in 2018, he is currently employed by Re:wild (rewild.org) as their Wildlife Crime Prevention Specialist.
