About James Sones

At this stage of my life, I see how formative years prepared me for what followed. In early life, I gravitated toward leadership positions and was always president of most of the organizations I was in, including class president in high school, college, and medical school, student body president in college and president of the intercollegiate council of our state. When work years began, I was one of the three founders of a clinic that, over 38 years has grown to be the largest GI clinic in our state, now with over 300 employees and 26 physicians. I was annually re-elected president of that clinic for the first 17 years of its existence until I insisted that others get in the stream of leadership. After a full career there, I accepted a position at our local medical school to be the Chief of Digestive Diseases, enjoying working with staff and training post-graduate fellows. I was elected Professor of the Year by the fellows while in this position. I was elected to be on the Medial Executive Committee at UMMC. Now I work part-time as Director of Adult Physician Relations, traveling around the state, meeting with physicians, clinics and hospitals to see if their only academic medical center in the state can be of help to them. I strongly believe that UMMC should be a resource to the practicing physician around our state. I particularly enjoy the listening involved in this job, something I have always stressed as a good method to establish lasting connections and truly understand paths to service to others.
