About James Szeto

I am a counselling psychologist and team leader working with a dynamic and high functioning team to deliver a statewide specialist counselling service for individuals with benzodiazepine dependence. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, insomnia, and substance use in hospital and educational settings, private practice, and community mental health. My therapeutic approach is person centred, with a focus on helping clients to gain understanding of their life stories, empowering them to make positive changes, and respecting their choices. My style is eclectic and based on the needs of the client, using strategies including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and mindfulness, with a focus on interpersonal process.
