About James Waller

I'm a seasoned Construction and Engineering Executive, who over the years has worn many hats- Chief Estimator, Senior Project Manager, Area Manager, Senior Construction Manager, Segment Construction Manager, Segment Engineer, Design Build & Engineering Services Manager and Vice President of Construction of a Top ENR contractor. As a result, I have a unique ability to work closely with tradesman to manage multi-disciplinary projects and to navigate complex challenges in a multi-billion-dollar company. But really, my history in construction goes back to my earliest years, traveling with my family from project to project during the construction season in the Rocky Mountains. My brothers and I learned the fundamentals of road and bridge construction from one of the best Roadway Superintendents, our Dad. Obviously, this fascinates a kid, so it is no surprise I ended up in this industry. The puzzle of construction projects and strategy development is what gets me up in the morning. Over the years, I have learned that high performing teams create successful companies and projects. It's the people—whether employees, vendors, contractors, clients, or partners-that impact operations and results. I believe understanding that is the key to my success. It also helps to be an excellent problem solver with strong leadership skills. A few accomplishments I'm proud of include: Grew Private Market Business Lines to over $250M per year as VP of Construction at Granite Construction. Expanded CMGC delivery from $75M per year to $350M per year through business development by demonstrating value to clients at Granite Construction. 2010 America’s Best Transportation Project from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, 2007 Top Ten Roads Winner (Road & Bridge), 2009 Mn/DOT Environmental Excellent Award, 2008 Mn/DOT Merit Award for Concrete Paving Excellence, 2009 DBIA Award for Best Civil Project over $50M Management Specialties: Executive Management & Communication Strategic Planning & Tactical Execution Financial Planning and Analysis (FP & A) Budget Creation with Profit and Loss Responsibility (P&L) Proposal Generation Building High Performing Teams Construction Experience: Railways, Roadways, Airports, Bridge Replacement, Rail Relocation, Infrastructure Installations, Mass Transit, and Dams Procurement Specialties: Bid Build, Design Build, CMGC, and Public Private Partnerships I am focused on putting my passion and skills to good use.
