I am the CEO of New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC), part of the UP Education group—Australasia’s leading private tertiary education platform. Across our 64 campuses and online learning environments, we educate over students annually, with a focus on delivering employment-focused, high-quality qualifications across in-demand verticals like Health & Wellbeing, Applied Trades, and Digital & Creative. NZTC has a profound and far-reaching influence on the early childhood education (ECE) sector. As a leading provider of ECE qualifications, NZTC has contributed significantly to the professional development of educators, shaping the sector’s workforce and leadership. With over graduates since its inception, NZTC-trained teachers form a substantial portion of the ECE workforce, many of whom hold key roles as teachers, centre managers, and owners. This widespread presence means that when prospective teachers engage with ECE centres, there is a high likelihood that they will encounter an NZTC graduate, often in a leadership position. This strong representation across the sector underscores NZTC’s role in shaping pedagogical practices, management approaches, and the overall quality of ECE in New Zealand. At a time when there is a shortage of registered ECE teachers, NZTC’s commitment to producing well-qualified teachers plays a critical role in addressing workforce challenges. By ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled professionals, NZTC supports the sector in maintaining high educational standards and meeting regulatory requirements. Since 2016, NZTC has produced over graduates who are working in health and wellbeing services in New Zealand. The number of graduates has grown with the development of new programmes and innovative delivery to the aged care sector. As part of the UP Education executive leadership group, I work alongside other divisional leaders and shared services to drive organic and strategic growth across the group—backed by a robust governance framework, strong industry partnerships, and a commitment to innovation and excellence.
