Honu is the Hawaiian word for Turtle, which represents the navigator and the eternal link among people, the land and the sea. Honu Adventures' passion is authentic, UnMass Market Experiences. While some people really enjoy being in crowded spaces, or sailing on a ship that holds passengers, I'm finding that more intimate, unusual and more personalized experiences make for a more pleasant journey, and also more in line with my bailiwick. EXPEDITION CRUISING - to take in the grandeur of Antarctica, explore the Fjords of Norway or venture across the arctic circle to experience the Northern Lights like never before. Sail on ships carrying fewer than 500 passengers and come face to face with penguins and polar bears. Or, take an UnCruise (it's a thing) and swim with whale sharks. SMALLER OCEAN SHIPS AND SMALLER FLEETS - Virgin Cruises has two ships in its fleet (adding two more later this year), Cunard three ships. Holland America is the "just the right size" cruise line with 13 ships. Carrying fewer than passengers on each of their ships, it affords a more personal experience. SLOWER PACED TRAVEL - Imagine a train trip across Canada or through Europe. Or a river cruise meandering along the Danube and on its way to Romania. Or challenging yourself to the Snow Man Trek across Bhutan or trekking to Everest Base Camp. Or, simply sitting on a beach, reading a book without a care in the world.
