About James Wilkinson

James has over 20 years experience in the management of people, products and projects across varied industries. James started his working career in the commercial interiors space working as an estimator and sales representative with soft furnishings. His eye for detail, immaculate presentation and ability with people saw him quickly move into a sales management role and success with a small team in the building industry and worked on notable projects such as the Sydney Opera House, The Australian Taxation Office and the Woolworth Head Quarters. In a change of direction an opportunity to represent young recording artists in the entertainment industry was taken by James and developed from a number of small live performance venues within Sydney into a major 26 city international touring circuit throughout the territory of Indonesia over the course of a number of years. As a natural entertainer and host, he took interest in hospitality. He excelled quickly and began managing fine dining restaurants including the multiple award winning Euro Lounge as and Enigma at The Piazza Castle Hill. This experience gave him detailed knowledge of the systems, processes and people management skills required to operate any kind of manufacturing business. In 2013 James saw an unmissable opportunity to provide Parramatta with a unique food and entertainment venue in a culturally significant area. He conceptualised and initiated Gatehouse High Tea Rooms as a High Tea and function venue and has from day one managed all aspects of the business. This business was awarded the Patron's Choice Award for Outstanding Business Achievement at the 2017 Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence. James was also nominated for the business leader and customer service awards. Gatehouse High Tea Rooms operated successfully for almost 9 years but unfortunately became yet another hospitality casualty of the COVID pandemic. James has circled back to the interiors industry where it all started and is now settled as Business development manager at NORMAN Australia supporting retailers with precision window furnishing products. He is passionate about faultless customer service, beautiful spaces and great food. In his spare time, he loves to spend time with his young family, play golf and music and keep fit.
