About James Winter

In the beginning it was about doing what I enjoyed and what I was passionate about – being outdoors and taking part/leading people into the outdoors. Whilst my personal development and ambition has led me away from canoes and dirty boots, to a large degree, some things remain the same. 20 years later what is still most important to me, is to be involved in something that I believe in, that I’m passionate about and that align with my values. The path my career has taken to date, has given me the benefit of working in, shaping and leading some amazing teams. I believe you can learn a great deal about yourself and others by working through adversity and in changing environments. I’ve found those who have the right attitude and character, who can be flexible and adapt, who are open to learning new things and are not afraid to ask the right questions can succeed in any task. This is a belief that has been reinforced through my personal experience with Go Ape. As the business grew so did my own role. With each step up I was required to understand and manage new challenges, often from a differing perspective. In most cases, by working with those around me and understanding the issues, we were able to formulate solutions or strategies required to succeed.
